Admissions

Whether substance abusers arrive at Samaritan Village voluntarily, through referral or by court order, they are all urgently in need of help to break the vicious cycle of drug dependency.

First, our staff interviews the prospective candidate to make sure that our program is the right place for them. And, if it is, which of our treatment options would be most effective; residential treatment, or out-patient or our methadone-to-abstinence program. Addiction history, levels of dysfunction and community ties are all factors in this decision.

At this key point, our staff and the client develop treatment and discharge plans so that there is a clear understanding from day one of what lies ahead on the road to recovery.

Clients who enter one of our drug-free residences become part of the highly-structured daily routine of counseling, work assignments, self-help and peer support programs.

Those in need of methadone detoxification enter our Richmond Hill facility as residents.

Those not suited for a Samaritan Village program are referred to an appropriate agency in our resource network. We maintain professional relationships with an extensive number of hospitals, licensed drug treatment programs, criminal justice agencies, veterans' programs and other health and human service agencies. In addition, we maintain relationships with community mental health centers to provide on-going psychotherapy for clients, when needed.

Admission to all of our residential programs is coordinated at our facility at 88-83 Van Wyck Expressway in Jamaica Queens. For information on admissions and assessment call (718) 657-6195.    Outpatient Service admissions are handled directly by the outpatient staff (see Outpatient Page for further information).
